Hi, I'm Cortney
I am the operations manager at a retail pharmacy. My 13-year-old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in September of 2025. Initially, it was challenging to manage his medications and supplies. I noticed I was often running low oon medication before it was time for a refill, wich puzzled me. After investigating the prescriptions, I discovered that the doctor wasn't providing the pharmacy with all the necessary information to calculate the prescriptions accurately.
I reached out to my doctor to clarify what was missing, which helped fix the issues with his prescriptions. As I began to pay more attention to other prescriptions, I realized that many were poorly written. Taking the initiative, I decided to educate my staff and local doctors about what we need to better serve our patients. I committed to training all the pharmacies in my district and becoming a diabetes advocate within the pharmacy community.
During a conversation with my mom, we agreed that patients also needed this essential information. That's when I created The Sugar Squad Rx Facebook page. My goal is to help diabetics navigate the pharmacy experience and advise them on what to watch out for on their prescriptions. The Sugar Squad Rx is dedicated to ensuring that type 1 diabetes patients get the most out of their medications.
